“I was flicking through the 100th issue of this magazine when the realisation dawned that I’min the possibly unique position of having contributed to every edition of Q-P since its launch inApril 2003. My first piece for this now esteemed publication was about the newly-announced deal between Bentley Motors and Breitling, a partnership that lasted an impressive 19years and triggered a whole slew of similar collaborations involving watch makers and car marques. The fact that most of them have come and gone is just one indicator of how the world of watches has changed dramatically since Q-P arrived at what could fairly be described as the ‘year zero’ of this century’s horological renaissance.
In the intervening two decades, we have reported on the revival, emergence and rise of countless dial names, as well as the fall of quite a few; the intriguing games of musical chairs that constitute the arrivals, departures and new appointments of brand leaders, and,of course, the sad demise of some of the industry’s key characters (Luigi ‘Gino’ Macaluso, George Daniels, Gérald Genta, Nicolas Hayek and Rolf Schnyder, to name but a few).
And Q-P itself has seen its fair share of changes and developments since its founding (off the back of an even older title called International Wrist Watch from 2009).
