Hey Mickey

In the 100 years since Walt and Roy Disney founded their eponymous company “for the young and the young at heart”, the animation stu¬dio has been responsible for creating many of 20th-century pop culture’s most enduring images. To celebrate this legacy, another storied image maker, the German camera firm Lei¬ca, is collaborating with Disney on the limited-edition Leica Q2 Disney camera, dubbed the “100 Years of Wonder.” The two companies have been linked since the earliest days of animation when Leica, then named Leitz, supplied cameras and projec¬tors to Disney to produce its cartoon storyboards. The new Q2 model nods to this historic partnership with a clas¬sic design featuring notes created by famed Disney animator Don Towsley in 1937, alongside sketches of Mickey Mouse. The textured body of the camera alludes to the feel of an animator’s tracing paper, while Mickey appears on the top plate and an etched Disney logo can be found on the rear. Only 500 numbered pieces will be available worldwide.
